Looking for some inspiration on what to do in Adelaide as the weather gets cooler? We've got you covered.

Go for a walk through the gardens

Take a stroll through the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Wittunga Botanic Gardens, or Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens to soak up the beautiful autumn colours and enjoy a peaceful respite from the busy streets. If the weather is clear, pack a picnic lunch or take a stroll with your morning coffee.

Explore South Australian history

Visiting some of our cultural institutions is a great way to get out of the weather if it’s wet, and learn about our unique South Australian and Australian history. Located on North Terrace, you can enjoy free entry to the South Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of South Australia. Check out the State Library, Wine Centre, or Adelaide Festival Plaza while you’re in the area.

Visit the Adelaide Central Market

Head to the Adelaide Central Market to stock up on fresh cheeses, charcuterie and in-season fruits and vegetables. Create a special meal at home or if the weather’s clear, put down a picnic rug in the square nearby and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.

Find a playground

For those with young children or grandkids, a playground can be the perfect place to visit to keep the kids happy and entertained. Many of Adelaide’s favourites include:

Cooler weather festivities

While Summer in Adelaide gets all the glory, there’s just as many exciting events and things to do in Adelaide as the weather gets cooler.

Check out Chihuly glass sculpture exhibitions in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, ending 26 April, or get amongst the AFL Gather Round at Adelaide Oval, being held mid-April.

With a packed full program, there’s something for everyone at Tasting Australia, being held this year from 2-11 May, with many unique experiences celebrating South Australia’s best chefs and produce.

Smaller venues in Adelaide also run fun events year-round like themed dining nights, or grab a group of friends for a quiz night at your favourite local pub.
