Dental implants

What’s a dental implant?

It’s a titanium ‘tooth root’ that’s inserted into the jawbone. With time, the dental implant fuses with your jawbone beneath the gum line. Our dentists then attach an artificial tooth (crown) to the dental implant.

The advantages

By securing the dental implant within the jawbone, the artificial tooth looks, feels and functions almost like your own natural tooth.

Other advantages include:

  • Improved speech, eating and comfort
  • Improved appearance
  • Improved oral health
  • No cutting of adjacent teeth
  • Maintenance of jawbone.

How are dental implants inserted?

First visit: Our dentists will check you’re suitable for a dental implant. They’ll assess the quality and quantity of your bone in the proposed site.

Second visit: The titanium implant is placed into your bone.

Third visit: The artificial tooth is attached to the abutment.

How many years will a dental implant last for?

Dental implants should last about 10 years, however, it’s dependent on each person’s oral and general health.

How to best look after your dental implant

A dental implant is still prone to gum disease just like your natural teeth.

It’s important to regularly brush and floss your artificial tooth to decrease the chance of developing plaque or calculus.
